Hickory Service League members have come together assisting people in need for seven decades. Over the years members initiated the community interest of others for Hickory’s charitable, civic and cultural conditions. Locally, members consider the geographic areas of Hickory, Newton, Conover and Catawba within Catawba County home.
Sensing a need to meet the needs within their local community, women initiated a Thrift Shop in 1948, established college scholarships in ‘50’s (Scholarship Endowment Fund), founded grade and high school at-risk youth programs in mid ‘90’s (the Family Focus & Special Needs Programs), began an annual Kitchens & More Tour in 2006, supported an elementary school weekend meal delivery program beginning in 2008 (Backpack Program) and created a program working with challenged young women in 2011 (Operation Beautiful).
In addition to providing these programs to the community, the Service League is a training ground for women leaders in the greater Hickory area.
