Since 1954, more than 150 high school seniors in Catawba County, NC have been assisted with education expenses through Service League scholarships. Eligible students should contact their high school guidance counselor for more information and an application.
At present $16,000 of the League budget is pledged to scholarship assistance. Two scholarships, each valued at $2,000 per year for four years, are awarded annually to graduates of public high schools within Catawba County. Scholarships are awarded for attendance at any community college, 2-year (junior college) or 4-year institution based on financial information supplied by candidates at the time of the interview. The scholarship recipients are chosen on the basis of financial need, academic achievement, leadership, and work ethic.
In addition, the A. Gaither Hahn Scholarship, valued at $1,000/year for four years, is awarded every four years to a student who is a graduate of a public high school in Catawba County and who is pursuing a degree at Lenoir-Rhyne College. This scholarship, as well as all grant monies, is financed through interest income in the Scholarship Endowment Fund.
In 1997, due to the benevolence of Jack Kahl and other friends and associates of Glenn Hilton, an endowment was established to fund scholarships honoring Mr. Hilton. The Glenn C. Hilton Scholarship is valued at $10,000 over four years, is awarded every other year as funds are available, and uses the same standards as other League funded scholarships. Guidelines for scholarship recipients may be obtained from any Scholarship Committee member.

Honor a special person by giving him or her a Hickory Service League Honor Card. These cards are available for a donation of $5 or more. All proceeds go to our scholarship fund.
